I love our community! And it's my mission, if elected, to bring new ideas and new energy to the town council.
"Smithtown 4 U" Plan
Bring together the resources that currently exist in Smithtown and
strive to work together to create an innovative, environmentally friendly,
business worthy and family safe image and plan for the future of Smithtown.
Market our assests to create a flourishing, vibrant community where innovation is encouraged.
A place in which businesses and families will come and stay and reopen our shuttered businesses on main street.
Our website needs to be Smithtown's electronic gateway...
welcoming, marketing and presenting ALL that Smithtown has to offer.
(Grade A schools, state-of-the-art libraries, parks and beaches with camping, canoeing and kayaking,
horse stables and trails, marinas, the railway and buses, 5 star restaurants, a wonderful theatre, retail stores,
St. James General store, Kings Park farmers market,
Smithtown Historical Society, Guide Dog Foundation,
first rate fire departments and medical facilities, club sports for our children, the list goes on...)
Enhance the way in which we communicate within our town departments, our community and our neighboring communities.
Create a community center focusing on our youth.
Encourage smart growth affordable housing for our young adults coming out of college
and our young families that always had hopes of staying close to home.
Work with the Nissequogue River Park Foundation and the Kings Park/Commack Rotary Club
to develop a Disc Golf Park, which would be the first of it's kind on Long Island.
Work together to encourage recycling at all our parks, town buildings and businesses.
Always watching to make certain that taxes do not increase
and that what is collected is used in the most effective manner possible
I believe that this will help support and sustain
the amazing and unique community we all call home.
Smithtown is for you! Smithtown is about you...
It takes all of us working together!
I believe we can make a difference.

September 11th, Remembered
As we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001,
it brings to mind the painful memories of this terrible event and the impact it has had on our country.
At the same time, this tragedy bore witness to the nobility of the human spirit .
We remember and honor all those who lost their lives,
the brave people who gave their lives and the heroes who responded to the emergency.
Even though we are a changed nation, we continue to heal
and I'm confident that the amazing dignity, love and respect displayed by our fellow Americans
is a testament to who we are as a people and that the great American human spirit is still strong and resolute.
We will never forget! |
My name is Teresa Haft and I'm really excited to be running for the Smithtown Town Council.
I'm excited by the prospect of joining the Town Council and being a part of the process for improving our town. I really believe I can make a positive difference in the quality of life for you, your children and every family and business in Smithtown.
During my entire life, I have felt a responsibility to be proactive in the community. I have participated as a citizen and with your help and support I'll be even more effective as an elected official.
There are many ways in which we can make Smithtown a better place.
Watching to make certain that taxes do not increase and that what is collected is used in the most effective manner possible, will always be part of my focus and attention.
Oue Town should be leading and doing everything practical to improve our environment. Even though we have a recycling program for our residents, many town businesses, our town buildings and our public parks don't seem to be participating. We need to be proactive and environmentally responsible.
To start, we should be setting up recycling receptacles in our parks and town centers and involving the entire community in the conscientiousness of recycling and gain its benefits.
Even though this is my first time seeking public office, I have, during my entire life felt an obligation and desire to contribute to my community. Even as a youngster, I petitioned and supported the successful effort for the installation of a traffic light at an intersection at Wicks Rd. and Daly Rd. which had been the scene of repeated mishaps.
I believe myself uniquely suited for this job. I enjoy interacting with my community and truly listening to the concerns and suggestions of its residents.
I believe in an activist approach.
I believe in new ideas and innovation.
I believe it is the responsibility of each citizen to contribute to the greater good of our community. We should be engaging and encouraging everyone to be part of the solution in making our town a better place, in every way possible.
I see there are some people in the audience who know of my involvement in the community. But for those of you who don't know me well. I've been a long time resident of Smithtown where I live with my husband and children.
I was raised in Commack and graduated from Commack High School. After attending Suffolk Community College I receive my degree in Graphic Design and graduated with the highest distinction. I worked in our community as an Art Director for over 14 years and now work as a graphic artist.
I have been actively involved and a volunteer on the Red Cross Huntington/Smithtown Disaster Action team for the past 10 years. In addition, I'm a volunteer at the Smithtown Fire Department. I have been involved with many community organizations over the years.
I believe that it's important to change the composition of the Town Council, and to bring in new energy and new ideas.
With your support, I know that we can make a major difference. I want to be your effective advocate in the interaction with the state and county government.
And finally, I want you to know that I will always act with integrity, transparency and in your best interests, the interests of the taxpayer, the community and for the environment.
Please give me the opportunity to be your voice. You won't regret it. |
